Hyundai Tucson Discontinued in India: Hyundai Motor India has officially discontinued the Tucson SUV, marking the end of its flagship premium model in the country. The decision follows sluggish sales and limited market traction, just three years after the fourth-generation Tucson was launched in 202

End of the Road for Hyundai’s Flagship SUV

After weeks of speculation and its quiet removal from Hyundai India’s website, the brand has confirmed that the Tucson will no longer be available in the domestic lineup. The SUV will not see an immediate replacement as Hyundai redirects focus toward future premium offerings — including the launch of its Genesis luxury brand in India by 2027.

A Strong Start That Faded Quickly

The fourth-gen Tucson debuted in India in 2022 with a bold design, advanced features, and an aim to establish Hyundai in the ₹30–40 lakh premium SUV segment. Globally a strong performer, the Tucson in India couldn’t sustain early interest.

Despite offering powerful 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, optional all-wheel drive, and a long list of premium features — including ADAS Level 2, 10.25-inch infotainment display, digital cluster, panoramic sunroof, and five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating — the SUV’s appeal remained limited.

Why Hyundai Discontinued the Tucson in India

Pricing and positioning proved to be the Tucson’s biggest challenges. Starting at ₹27.31 lakh and going up to ₹33.60 lakh (ex-showroom), it sat close to entry-level luxury SUVs like the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 — but without a luxury badge to justify the premium pricing.

At the same time, Hyundai’s own Creta, far more affordable yet feature-rich, continued to dominate the SUV market. Buyers in the ₹30 lakh-plus segment generally preferred luxury brands for brand value, while others stayed within the sub-₹25 lakh range for value-oriented options.

Sales peaked briefly in 2023, driven by initial demand, but volumes dropped sharply thereafter. In 2025, Hyundai sold only 600–700 units of the Tucson in India, highlighting its limited market footprint.

Challenges in India’s Premium SUV Market

The Tucson’s struggles aren’t unique. Other SUVs in the same bracket — such as the Jeep Meridian, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Skoda Kodiaq — also face low volumes. The segment above ₹30 lakh remains difficult for mass-market brands, especially for five-seater SUVs without a luxury badge or seven-seat flexibility.

Moreover, the Tucson was imported as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit, which increased costs, while Hyundai’s marketing focus stayed on high-volume models like the Creta, Venue, and Exter.

What’s Next for Hyundai in India

With the discontinuation of the Tucson, Hyundai’s SUV range in India now tops out with the Creta and Alcazar. The company is currently focusing on expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup and strengthening mass-market models.

Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to enter the premium luxury space through its Genesis brand. Expected to debut in India by 2027, Genesis will introduce models like the GV80 SUV and GV80 Coupe, locally assembled to keep pricing competitive. This move aligns with Hyundai’s global premium strategy and aims to tap into India’s growing luxury car market.
