MG Comet: If you’ve been considering buying the MG Comet EV, now might be the time to act fast. MG Motor India has announced a price increase of ₹15,000 across all variants of its compact electric vehicle (EV), citing rising input and battery costs. Additionally, the company has revised its battery subscription plans, making ownership slightly more expensive for new customers.
New MG Comet EV Prices: What’s Changed?
Effective immediately, all variants of the MG Comet EV will cost ₹15,000 more than before. This brings the starting ex-showroom price of the Comet EV to approximately ₹8.20 lakh, depending on the city and variant.
MG says the hike was necessary to offset increased production costs, especially around batteries and essential electronic components.
“Despite our best efforts to maintain pricing, inflationary pressures and rising battery input costs have led to this revision,” the company said in an official statement.
Battery Subscription Plans Also Become Pricier
In addition to the base vehicle price, MG Motor has revised its battery subscription model — a key ownership option that allowed customers to reduce the upfront cost of the vehicle.
Under the updated pricing:
- Monthly battery rental charges have increased by ₹500–₹800, depending on the mileage cap
- Annual plans now cost between ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 more than before
- New security deposit and maintenance terms have also been introduced for certain plans
MG cited logistics and battery lifecycle management costs as primary reasons behind the change.
Is the MG Comet EV Still Worth It?
Despite the price hike, the MG Comet EV remains one of the most affordable electric cars in India, especially for city driving. With its compact dimensions, 200+ km claimed range, and tech-forward interior featuring dual 10.25-inch displays and smart connectivity, it still appeals to urban commuters, first-time EV buyers, and fleet operators.
The battery subscription model, while now pricier, continues to offer flexibility for users concerned about battery longevity or upfront costs.
Looking Ahead: More Comet Variants and Features?
Industry sources suggest MG may introduce new Comet EV variants with extended range or enhanced features later this year, possibly to offset concerns about rising costs. There’s also speculation about a sportier version for tech-savvy, younger buyers.
Final Thoughts
While the MG Comet EV’s price hike may pinch the wallet slightly, it reflects broader trends in the EV industry, where battery material costs and inflation are impacting pricing. Even with the increase, the Comet continues to offer compelling value in the city EV space — especially for those looking for a compact, connected, and eco-friendly ride.
